Pouring Puppy Love
This past weekend, Portree Cellars graciously hosted a special holiday donation drive deep in the Texas Hill Country at their winery. Our rescues got to go out on an adventure to meet and greet visitors, spread some serious Christmas cheer and hopefully catch somebody's eye. They were all decked out in their holiday best! Wine lovers and dog enthusiasts came together to donate much-needed supplies, with a percentage of wine sales supporting the care of HLCR dogs. Portree Cellars proved that the holiday spirit is alive and well—one wine glass and puppy cuddle at a time!

Diamond Feature: Roxy
Roxy was a wandering stray before being rescued by Bertram Animal Control. Her front paws show signs of a past injury, but they don’t seem to cause her pain, and she hardly notices them. Unfortunately, Roxy tested positive for Heartworm Disease, a common condition in the southern U.S. While its treatment can seem daunting to adopters, it’s manageable when taken step by step. As part of the Diamonds program, Roxy will receive all the care she needs to become Heartworm-free. A true sweetheart who adores cuddles, Roxy is sure to win over a loving family in no time.
Diamond Update: Diamond Girls
A homeowner returned to find these flea-infested puppies abandoned on their property, with no idea how to care for them. Reaching out for help after discovering them, there were originally four sister puppies. Blanche, Rose and Dorothy have come a long way from their difficult start and are now healthy, vetted and ready for adoption! Thanks to the incredible support of our community and staff, they received the care they needed to thrive. Fully treated and out of danger, these sweet girls are ready to embrace life as happy, playful puppies—and to have the loving homes they deserve!

Volunteer Update
Wow! Where has this year gone? December is a busy month for most of us, but we hope you will still have time to spread some holiday cheer at HLCR. All of the HLCR pups will enjoy special visits and treats as well. Don't feel you can walk a shift? That's okay! Sign-up and come out for some snuggle time! You can sign-up on any of the walking shifts for that, just write in "SNUGGLES ONLY" so the staff know who's coming and what you're doing.
We have wishbone trees for all of our dogs at a number of businesses around our area. You take one of the ornaments with a wish, a.k.a wishbone, from the tree and drop off whatever the wish is for. I will warn you, some sneaky pups put on their wishbone that they wished to be adopted so we're all hoping those wishes come true!
If you want to go to any of these events and the sign-up says full—please give me a call or email janelleb@hlcr.org. The more volunteers, the merrier the event!
We wish you and your families all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
